NSSA Life Member Guy P. McMurray, age 93, of Asheboro, NC died Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Randolph Hospice House. Guy joined NSSA in 1969. Guy was born in Chicago in 1921. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in both WWII and Korea, receiving multiple decorations, including the Silver and Bronze Stars and Purple Hearts. After 22 years of service, he retired as a Lt. Colonel. In addition to shooting skeet, Guy enjoyed tennis, racing sports cars, and trap shooting. He is survived by his wife, Joan M. McMurray. He was a lifelong resident of the San Antonio area and retired from San Antonio City Public Service. He was a fixture at Randolph Skeet and Trap Range and known to always lend a helping hand. NSCA extends its sympathies to the friends and family of Nick Fedoroff, who passed away on February 19. He was a long-time NSCA member from Cape May, NJ, who often shot with Diane Sorantino and Bob Lepor and participated in many National Championships. Originally from Pennsylvania, Nick joined the Cape May Police Department in 1972 and became a partner of Diane Sorantino. He retired after 26 years of service and began a part-time career as a safety officer working on oil spill recovery projects. “Nick’s kind spirit, generosity and amazing sense of humor inspires all that knew him,” said Sorantino. We have been informed that long-time NSCA member and avid sporting clays shooter Douglas Day Seward of Greenfield, Minnesota, passed away on February 6 after a battle with cancer. Among his survivors are his wife, Nancy Cowette Seward; daughters, Jennifer Anne Beckman (Andrew) and Elizabeth Day Seward; sister Karen Goarke; and brother Jim Seward. Doug served in the Marine Corps in the Vietnam War before moving to the Twin Cities. His professional career was devoted to the commercial real estate industry. He was an avid outdoorsman who shared his passion for fishing and sporting clays with many great friends. Tony Kelley, longtime Life Member of NSSA-NSCA from Jamaica, passed away the week before Christmas after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 89. Tony was an active registered skeet competitor for over 40 years in Jamaica, Florida, Zone 4, and at the World Shoot, his specialty in skeet being the .410. He shot many 100 straights with the .410 even into his later years. Tony and his wife Patsy also embraced sporting clays, and over the past 20+ years, enjoyed many winter months on the South Florida sporting clays circuit. We are saddened to report that Toni Ann Rogers Steen, a well-known skeet shooter, shoot host, and promoter of the sport, passed away on December 20, 2014 at a hospital in Dallas following a short illness. Toni was born in Oklahoma City on August 28, 1946, but was a lifelong Dallas resident. With her vivacious, engaging personality, Toni endeared herself to everyone she met. Although she was petite in stature, she had an exuberant presence that filled the room. Always charming and glamorous, when Toni entered a room, she immediately became the center of attention. We regret to report the death of NSCA shooter Joyce Reece Medlen of Woodlake, NC. Joyce passed away on Sunday, November 9 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital with her husband, Jay by her side. Joyce was born in Los Angeles, California on February 15, 1938. She served her country in the United States Army and later worked with the federal government in civil service. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jay David Medlen, also well-known in the shooting community as a FITASC judge. Joyce was a popular shooter at the National Championship and other major shoots she attended, with many friends in the sporting clays community. We are saddened to report that Ann Aikman Myers, 84, former Director of NSSA and NSCA, passed away on July 18. Her grandson, Eric Battersby, informed us that she died of Alzheimer’s disease. “I grew up visiting her at the house up on the hill at the National Shooting Complex,” said Battersby. “I know that she truly loved being a part of the NSSA-NSCA, and she dedicated many years of her life to the organization.” Ann was born in Washington, IN, and moved with her family to Texas in 1942. Harry “Hub” Hubbard Johnson, Jr., an internationally known sporting clays shooter, Team USA member, and a longtime horseman, died the afternoon of March 28 in Central Kentucky. A champion Junior clays shooter, Hub was a member of Team USA Sporting and FITASC from 2005 to 2008, serving as Junior Team Captain for FITASC and Sporting in 2007. He was Junior All-American 1st Team from 2004 to 2009 and had NSCA National and U.S. Open podium finishes in 2004 to 2008. Robert “Bud” Decot, founder of Decot HyWyd Sport Glasses, died suddenly February 10, 2014, at his home in Phoenix, Arizona. Bud was 88 and lived each day to the fullest, right up until the very end. Bud was an industry icon and fixture at major NSSA-NSCA events. In 1947, after serving in the U.S. Navy, the young licensed optician was asked by his father, a renowned eye surgeon and hunter, to design a pair of shooting glasses. Two years later, Bud attended his first Grand American Trap Shoot in Vandalia, Ohio, to shoot and to sell his Decot ClearSite Goggles.
