Skytop Lodge Outfitters Instructor

Skytop Lodge Outfitters Instructor is a guest service position that is mainly responsible for the daily operations of the “Outfitters at Skytop Lodge” which adds to the overall recreational experience of the Skytop Lodge resort guest. The primary job responsibilities will be to instruct resort guests on the sporting clays course / 5-stand and wobble trap with an emphasis on safety, professionalism, and unparalleled guest experience.

The resort shooting sports consist of a 5-stand and a sporting clays course. Applicants must demonstrate a passion for the outdoors and the Pocono Mountain area, be detail oriented, have a strong work ethic, and have extensive experience with shotgun sports, either in a shooting club, competition, or in hunting scenarios.

Job Requirements:

  • Effective communication towards resort guests in relation to safety and basic instruction. Sporting clays instructors must possess excellent oral presentation skills.
  • Ability to independently lead groups of up to 6 people as well as co-lead groups of up to 12 people or more
  • Ability to decipher information and make split-second decisions regarding safety while instructing
  • Effective and proactive communication with fellow employees in relation to the task at hand
  • Ability to recommend proactive solutions to any guest-related problems
  • Ability to administer basic First Aid and CPR when needed during any emergency situations.
  • Ability to teach resort guests the principles of safety and accurately shooting 12-gauge or 20-gauge over-under shotguns
  • Ability to determine eye and hand dominance to ensure shooting accuracy
  • Ability to decipher problems in guest shooting technique and resolve to increase shooting accuracy
  • Ability to decipher and solve issues with shotguns and clay machines
  • Excellent physical condition is required for all sporting clays instructors. This is in relation to moving/lifting of heavy objects needed for the function of the activity, specifically loading of clay machines, batteries for clays machines, and transfer of machines to/from storage.
  • Courteous and positive interaction with resort guests

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Back-of-the-house duties such as cleaning all equipment, re-fueling, safety checks, basic repair of equipment, storage of equipment, inventories, damage reports, maintenance schedules, re-stocking, storage upkeep and housekeeping, racking of equipment, and securing equipment in gun safes.
  • Scheduling flexibility in regards to the supply and demand of resort guest occupancy. Weekends and Holidays are a MUST.
  • Assist with keeping the “Outfitter Shop” operational, stocked, and clean.
  • Cleaning and keeping the refrigerators stocked with beverages for guests
  • Making sure First Aid Kit is always stocked
  • Paying attention to guests in relation to health related matters such as physical exertion,
    sunstroke, and reminding guest to hydrate and to apply sunscreen.
  • Fly Fishing or Ice Fishing experience is a plus.
  • Insuring all appropriate paper work (wavers, receipts, etc.) is completed.
  • Complete month end inventory on all clays and shells and submit to Outfitter Supervisor
  • Knowledge of current clay, shot shell and shotgun inventories to ensure supplies are adequate
  • Assist with other activities when needed
  • All other duties as assigned by manager/supervisor.

Wage Range: $10-$12 per hour based upon experience

Part-time position with possibility of full-time for the right candidate.
