James “Jim” Carver, NSSA Assistant Chief Referee, of Granite Falls, NC, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, after a short illness. Jim was a Life Member of the NSSA and served 44 consecutive years as chief, assistant chief and/or referee of the World Skeet Championships. Per his request, there will be no memorial service. We are saddened to report that Terry Raahauge, owner of Raahauge’s Hunting and Sporting Clays in Dunnigan, California, succumbed to cancer on October 29 while at home with his wife Donna and loved ones. Terry was known for sharing his love of hunting and shooting with fellow hunters, shooters, and the youth throughout Northern California. Several outdoor publications are posting articles about Terry, including MyOutdoorBuddy.com and Western Outdoor News. A memorial hunt and celebration of his life are being planned for January. NSCA Life Member Stephen Robert Parks of Gervais, Oregon, passed away on September 3. Stephen co-owned Salem Clay Target Sports with his wife, Suzanne. He supported local Boy Scouts and Eagle Scouts in securing their shotgun and safety patches and was an excellent teacher in anything related to shotgun shooting. He was a valued member of NSCA who will be missed. Stephen’s other interests included fly-fishing and fly-tying, and with his family he also enjoyed traveling, pheasant hunting, riding motorcycles, and spending time on the Oregon coast. NSSA extends condolences to the family and friends of Ronald E. Tree, an NSSA Life Member from Lakewood, Washington, who passed away on May 2, 2013. Memorial services were held on May 9. Ron was inducted into the Washington Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame in 1985 and the NSSA Zone 7 Hall of Fame in 2006. Born in Schenectady, NY, Ron traveled the world with the U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1972, when he retired and made his home in Washington. Members and staff of NSSA mourn the death of skeet referee Tom “Bucky” Buchanan, who died on Friday, May 3 at his home in Livonia, NY, at the age of 61. He was known for his sharp sense of humor, generosity, kindness, and dedication to his family, friends, community, and NSSA. Funeral services were held in Livonia on Thursday, May 9, followed by a celebration of his life at the Conesus Lake Sportsman’s Club. NSCA extends its condolences to the family and friends of Mike Raahauge, a long-time NSCA member club owner and operator in Corona, California, who died on Monday of cancer. Raahauge was very active in his community and bringing people into the shooting sports through instruction and activities at his shooting facilities. Raahauge is survived by Elaine, his wife and partner of 48 years; his son, Pat, who has three sons and two daughters; and a daughter, Cindy Shenberger, who lives in North Carolina with her husband, Kevin, and their two daughters. Back Woods Quail Club’s Rick Hemingway reports that online squadding for the 2013 U.S. Open Sporting Clays Championship is now open for view, and all shooters will be in the system by the end of the week. To date, 831 shooters have registered. Shooters should begin receiving email confirmations this week. The U.S. Open will be held May 12-19 at Back Woods Quail Club on the coast of South Carolina. Liston passed peaceably with his wife Estha, daughter Margaret, and sister Kay Hawthorne by his side.
