Krieghoff All-American Points System

Krieghoff All-American teams are selected according to a points system based on shoots participated in, difficulty factor of those shoots, shoot results, and other factors. The points system and calculation of shooters’ place are detailed below.

Shooter Eligibility for Open Events
Shooters who complete the required Open Minimum Target totals of 1000 in the 12 gauge, 20 gauge, 28 gauge, and .410 bore, and 500 in the Doubles events are eligible for selection to the NSSA All-American Open Teams.

Shoot Rankings
The “Shoot Difficulty Factor” will be computed at NSSA by the computer, by adding the combined number of AAA and AA shooters in each of the open events reported and dividing the total by the actual number of events. This Shoot Difficulty Factor will be the unit of measure used to determine where this shoot ranks in the list of shoots for the year (Shoot Ranking). The shoot with the highest shoot difficulty will be ranked first, followed by the remaining shoots in descending order of difficulty.

NOTE: The All American Committee has elected to limit the points given for the World and Mini-World shoots. Instead of using the real difficulty factor, the difficulty factor will be calculated based on the largest point shoot of the year other than the World/Mini-World. The Mini World will be set at 1.5 times this shoot’s value and the World will be set at 2 times this shoot’s value.

Using the 2000 Masters Shoot at the Forest City Gun Club in Savannah, Georgia as an example:

The “Shoot Difficulty Factor” is 197 using the equation above.

Individual Rankings (Open and Concurrent)
Shooters who are eligible for All American consideration will be ranked in descending order by points earned from the 12 shoots which provide an individual with the most points. This is called a shooter’s “Top 12” shoot report. (For a shooter who shoots the minimum required targets in less than 12 shoots, all of his or her shoots in which points were awarded will be listed in this section).

Distribution of Points
Clubs or Shoot Managers reporting the results of shoots to the NSSA will report the following number of places on the shoot report. Care should be taken to assure any method (computer or manual) of reporting includes the number of places prescribed. The Champion (CH), Runner-Up (RU) and Third (3rd) places can come from any Class or Group and will be awarded the points earned, but All American points will only be awarded to places in AAA and AA Classes of the Open Events, and to Group I places in any Concurrent Events. Shooters in Classes A and below of Open Events and Groups II and below of Concurrent Events are not awarded points for their places in these events.

Note: Points will only be awarded for as many places in class AA/AAA and the concurrent events as dictated by the Distribution of Points section below.

Individual Shooter Profiles
The profiles on individual shooters will provide a detailed account of the points a shooter has earned throughout the year. These points are calculated using the “factors” established for All American Awards

“Shoot Difficulty Factor” x “Award Point Value” = “Total Open Points”

1. The World Championships and the Mini World Shoot will report:

a. The HOA Champion- CH
b. The HOA Runner Up- RU
c. The HOA Third Place- 3rd
d. Ten (10) places for AAA and AA in the HOA Event
e. The Champ, Runner Up & 3rd for every Open Event in the program
f.  Ten (10) places for AAA and AA in the Open events
g. The Champ, Runner Up & 3rd for all Concurrent events
h. Ten (10) places in Group 1 of the Concurrents

2. Any Shoot with over “60” as a “Shoot Difficulty Factor”, shoot management should report:

a. The HOA Champion- CH
b. The HOA Runner Up- RU
c. The HOA Third Place – 3rd
d. Six (6) places for AAA and AA in the HOA Event
e. The Champ, Runner Up & 3rd for every Open Event in the program
f.  Six (6) places for AAA and AA in the Open events
g. The Champ, Runner Up & 3rd for all Concurrent events
h. Four (4) places in Group 1 of the Concurrents

3. Any Shoot with “35 to 60” as a “Shoot Difficulty Factor”, shoot management should report:

a. The HOA Champion- CH
b. The HOA Runner Up- RU
c. The HOA Third Place- 3rd
d. Four (4) places for AAA and AA in the HOA Event
e. The Champ, Runner Up & 3rd for every Open Event in the program
f.  Four (4) places for AAA and AA in the Open events
g. The Champ, Runner Up & 3rd for all Concurrent events
h. Two (2) places in Group 1 of the Concurrents

4. Any Shoot with less than “35” as a “Shoot Difficulty Factor”, shoot management should report:

a. The HOA Champion- CH
b. The HOA Runner Up- RU
c. The HOA Third Place- 3rd
d. Three (3) places for AAA and AA in the HOA Event
e. The Champ, Runner Up & 3rd for every Open Event in the program
f.  Three (3) places for AAA and AA in the Open events
g. The Champ, Runner Up & 3rd for all Concurrent events
h. One (1) place in Group 1 of the Concurrents

Note:  Points will be computed for shoots having a “Shoot Difficulty Factor” greater than “2”.

 

5. The following “Concurrent Specialty Shoots”: Junior World, Ladies Charity Skeet Classic, 
    Armed Services Skeet Championships, and Seniors Invitational Shoot should report:

a. Champion
b. Runner Up
c. 3rd
d. Six (6) places in Group 1 

 

Shooter Eligibility for Concurrent Events
Shooters who complete the required Concurrent Minimum Target totals of 1000 in the 12 gauge, 800 in the 20, 28 and 410 gauges, and 500 in the doubles events are eligible for selection to the NSSA All American Concurrent Teams.

Concurrent Event Factors
The “Concurrent Event Factor” for all Concurrent Events offered at a shoot will be determined by NSSA. The NSSA Computer will count every shooter who is eligible to participate in a concurrent based on the approved rules for concurrents. For age concurrents the birth date will be used, and a shooter will qualify in their age concurrent based on their age on November 1st of the shooting year. Other concurrents will be determined on data provided to NSSA by the shooter and maintained in the Member Master File. Gender will determine the Lady Concurrent. Current enrollment status will determine a shooter’s Collegiate Concurrent status. Current military status on file will determine the Active Duty Concurrent and Retired Military Concurrent. The total number of eligible entries in each concurrent event will be computed by NSSA for each shoot. This “Concurrent Event Factor” will be multiplied by the “Award Point Value” to determine the “Total Concurrent Points” awarded to a shooter who earns one of the places in a Concurrent Event. This differs from the “Open Events” where the “Shoot Difficulty Factor” is used.

Individual Shooter Profiles for Concurrents
The concurrent event profiles on individual shooters will provide a detailed account of the points a shooter has earned throughout the year. These points are calculated using the “factors” established for All American Awards.

“Concurrent Event Factor” x “Award Point Value” = “Total Concurrent Points”.

Related Information:

·         A member of an Open Team may also be selected as the Captain of one or more concurrent teams if all the evaluation factors so indicate.

·         The Rookie Team has no Captain assigned.

·         Members of the Open Teams are not eligible for Class All American Honors. 

Award Point Values
The Award Point Values are established as numeric values assigned to each of the approved places in the Open, Concurrent and High Over All (HOA) Events of NSSA Registered Shoots.  

Using the Difficulty Factor of 197 from the 2000 Masters example from above:

The HOA Champion earns:	197 x 8 = 1576 Points.
The HOA Runner-Up earns:	197 x 6 = 1182 Points.
The HOA 3RD earns:	197 x 4 = 788 Points.
The HOA AAA and AA Class 1st places earn:	197 x 2 = 394 Points.
The HOA AAA and AA Class 2nd places earn:	197 x1.8= 355 Points.
The HOA AAA and AA Class 3rd places earn:	197 x1.6= 315 Points.
The HOA AAA and AA Class 4th places earn:	197 x1.4= 276 Points.
The HOA AAA and AA Class 5th places earn:	197 x1.2= 236 Points.
The HOA AAA and AA Class 6th places earn:	197 x1.0= 197 Points.
The HOA AAA and AA Class 7th places earn:	197 x .8= 158 Points.
The HOA AAA and AA Class 8th places earn:	197 x .6= 118 Points.

Concurrent Events  –  The “Concurrent Event Factor” is determined by a count of all eligible entries in each event.

Triple Sub HOA example:   There were “73” TS Entries in the HOA Event at the 2000 Masters.

The HOA TS Champion will be awarded:	73 x 8 = 584 Points.
The HOA TS Runner-Up will be awarded:	73 x 6 = 438 Points.
The HOA TS 3RD will be awarded:	73 x 4 = 292 Points.
The HOA Group 1 TS 1st place will be awarded:	73 x 2 = 146 Points.
The HOA Group 1 TS 2nd place will be awarded:	73 x 1.8= 131 Points.
The HOA Group 1 TS 3rd place will be awarded:	73 x 1.6= 117 Points.
The HOA Group 1 TS 4th place will be awarded:	73 x 1.4= 102 Points.
The HOA Group 1 TS 5th place will be awarded:	73 x 1.2= 88 Points.
The HOA Group 1 TS 6th place will be awarded:	73 x 1.0= 73 Points.
The HOA Group 1 TS 7th place will be awarded:	73 x 0.8= 58 Points.
The HOA Group 1 TS 8th place will be awarded:	73 x 0.6= 44 Points.
Triple Sub 12 gauge example:  There were “84” TS Entries in the 12 Gauge Event at the 2000 Masters.
The 12 Gauge TS Champion will be awarded:	84 x 4 = 336 Points.
The 12 Gauge TS Runner-Up will be awarded:	84 x 3 = 252 Points.
The 12 Gauge TS Third Place winner will be awarded:	84 x 2 = 168 Points.
The 12 Gauge Group 1 TS 1st place will be awarded:	84 x 1 = 84 Points.
The 12 Gauge Group 1 TS 2nd place will be awarded:	84 x .9= 76 Points.
The 12 Gauge Group 1 TS 3rd place will be awarded:	84 x .8= 67 Points.
The 12 Gauge Group 1 TS 4th place will be awarded:	84 x .7= 59 Points.
The 12 Gauge Group 1 TS 5th place will be awarded:	84 x .6= 50 Points.
The 12 Gauge Group 1 TS 6th place will be awarded:	84 x .5= 42 Points.
The 12 Gauge Group 1 TS 7th place will be awarded:	84 x .4= 34 Points.
The 12 Gauge Group 1 TS 8th place will be awarded:	84 x .3= 25 Points.

Note: Same formula would apply to 20 – 28 – .410 & doubles in TS and all other concurrent events.
